While the fans of WWF and the various other wrestling federation’s have had video games out for a number of years, the fans of UFC have had to wait for this title to come along but I have to say I think they will be reasonably pleased with the outcome. The developers and publishers are hoping that this will prove to be just as successful and popular as their other fighting titles and that this is the start of a new yearly franchise. The first problem the developers had when creating this game must have been the complexity of the number of moves that you can do in the sport and how to transfer them onto a standard joypad. Infact they have made a reasonable attempt although the manual looks like a nightmare when you first pick it up. The training mode as well, which basically teaches you each move, seems to go on and on for hours. (It dosent really it just seems that way). What will probably happen when you play it is for the most part you will play with five or six of your favourite moves and then accidently stumble on others whilst you are playing. The second problem was to match the speed that the real game takes place at. Unfortunately here the developers have been unable to match it. However, thankfully this hasn’t dampened the fun of beating the hell out of your opponent and only the true fan is likely to complain. Graphically this is an excellent game within the octagon where the bouts take place. There are over 80 fighters in this title and each one looks like their real life counterpart and actually uses the moves that the real stars do too. Impressively attention to minute detail has actually been given such as blood coming from cuts and bruising that gets worse as the game progresses. As per most fighting games however, the crowd is very bland and repetitive. This is one area that 85% of all sports games out there need to improve on and hopefully this will be attended too for the next edition of the game. Sound wise there is a soundtrack which is repetitive and annoying which you will switch off very quickly and some decent sound effects. There is also a reasonable commentary throughout the game. Overall this is an excellent first attempt at bringing a complicated fighting game to the video console world. It has an excellent career mode which will take you a long time to complete as well exhibition, a tutorial and the chance to relive classic fights and try to rewrite history. If you are a fighting fan or a fan of this sport anyway then this will be a definite purchase for you to enjoy for the coming year and then hopefully next year the small complaints will get sorted. An excellent recreation of one of the most difficult sports to recreate. |
