If you like the Build-a-lot series of games then there is a very good chance that you will enjoy this one because it is so similar apart from it is hotels that you are building and upgrading instead of just houses.

To do this you must select lots, make sure you buy enough materials to do what you wish to do and also make sure you hire enough employees to do it.

There is actually a background story to the game to do with your boss, Lynette being married for only one month before her husband demands a divorce and stands to get everything she owns in the divorce agreement. However Lynette refuses to be beat and employs you to be her new business development manager and so the game begins.

To be honest the story may be implausible but you do not really take much notice of it and you just get on with the game which is fun but as I say essentially not in the slightest bit original.

Although the game is called Hotel Mogul there are actually three types of buildings for you to construct – Hotels (which basically are any type of buildings where people can lodge) Commercial buildings (which you construct to increase the surrounding hotels – these can be things such as Gardens etc) and Service buildings (such as museums, real estate agents or construction mills). As well as building you can choose to upgrade existing buildings and later in the game buy out other people’s properties etc in order to increase Lynette’s wealth.

The buildings will also need regular maintenance which again you are in charge off. Make sure they do not fall into disrepair or cost you more money than they are worth. Each level has both an income goal and a time goal for which you try and get to this income level. This adds to the challenge of the game and also adds a repeat value to the game.

Graphically it is bright and colourful as you would expect. There is not the greatest range of buildings and when they are being constructed they all look exactly the same and it is only when the scaffolding is taken away that you actually see what you have built.

Overall it is a fun game to play that does not do anything particularly wrong but lacks originality. It possibly will be the type of game that you will buy for a younger games player but then catch yourself playing it yourself when you have 10-15 mins spare and you don’t want to load the latest FPS or RPG etc.It is a decent game at a decent price and a good addition to the Focus Multimedia catalogue.
