So now that I have starded to scan the budget shelves for something epic and sweet to play i have found these 2 games. Both of which hit the $20 rack and present the ever so sweet cheap and epic feel you should run out and grab these titles. FF12 presents you with the sweetest Final Fantasy character in Bathier and God of War shows you how bad ass a Spartan names Kratos (not King Leonidas) can be. If you are looking for a great game to carry on that old PS2 you have sitting there till you can afford a PS3 you should go grab these for a steal. You wil find them to fulfill you wildest dreams and with GoW your sickest fantasy. Plus for the lonley guy like me, FF12 has a great story of friendship and GoW has great nudity.
Justin Whitmer - Touch Screen Gaming (Ye Old Taverne)
So you're at the bar. You're getting your drink on. A cigarette burns from your lips. Its all gravy baby because you're fully engrossed in your touch screen game. The relatively small machines litter bars and convienence stores across the country. It only takes a quarter or two, and you can get engrossed in a range of games from poker and strategy, to sports or trivia. Personally, I am a master at the Erotica Photohunt, but hey got a quarter? You could find out yourself.
Ray Tennant - Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
We all know the name GTA, I'm sure we have all played it at some point or another. This is just a reminder that the game is still out there and you can enjoy it for under $20.This game if you don't know is one of the best games of the past generation. It started a whole new sandbox genre, that many open ended games are now based upon. Now because you will be waiting just a few more months for GTA 4, go back and run through the first of the GTA 3 trilogy.
Ron Whitmer - Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)
After Street Fighter 2 set the standard for fighting games in the early 90's, few original concepts were conceived to push the genre forward. Using dinosaurs or claymation characters were not progression, although interestingly Nintendo also added those to the mix. Yes, once again it took the folks at Nintendo to reinvent the wheel and make fighting games fun again. How did they do it? More blood? Make it 3D? Add impossible combos? Not even close. All they did was make it 4 player friendly, and easy to pick up. Oh, and they threw in some Pokemon too for good measure. Yes, Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 was one of the few titles that Nintendo fanboys like me could wave around proudly, it couldn't get any better. But Nintendo 1-Upped themselves on the Gamecube with one of the best launch titles ever. More characters, more weapons, more stages, and more Smashes. Super Smash Bros. Melee is damn near perfect in the gameplay department, and one of the best times you'll have with some friends. So while they put the finishing touches on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, pick this one up if you missed it, grab a couple buddies, and cry when you get beaten by Jigglypuff.
So here is the deal, this game is unknown by many but a must have. It is a mix between a 2d sidescroller, God, and RPG. You are the god and the people have deserted you, now you must regain their following. With the God mode you have to defeat monsters in the area. For 800 points this is a steal and will take a chunk out of your life.
Ray Tennant - Metroid Prime (GC)
This game was probably the best game on the Gamecube. It was also the evolution of one of Nintendo's premier franchises. The move of the side scrolling Metroid into a first person adventure was pure genius. The very atmospheric locations and stunning graphics for it's time coupled with tight controls and a great story make this title a must buy.
Justin Whitmer - Tetris Mobile (Mobile)
It doesn't get anymore nostalgic then Tetris. And it doesn't get any more convienent then mobile phone games. You can pick this classic up on pretty much any phone or carrier for about 6 ot 7 bucks. And trust me when your caught in traffic or just trying to kill some time, it is worth every penny. It plays just like any Tetris game would, and the smaller screen doesn't inhibt your vison at all really. And the best part, you get the sweet soundtrack too.
Ron Whitmer - Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA)
With a remake of the original Final Fantasy Tactics, and FFTA 2 on the way, now would be a great time to familiarize yourself with the land of Ivalice. Why should you prepare now? Well, with over 100 hours of gameplay, a branching storyline, and TONS of quests, you need the time. A great battle system, job system, armor, and quests ensure that this game never drags. It's fun leveling up your characters and deciding which job to give them because they are all interesting, and have distinct advantages in battle. This is one of the best games for the GBA, and one of the few SquareEnix handheld titles that isn't a FF remake. If you're a tactics RPG fan, or just looking for a great handheld time killer, look no farther.
Ray - Bomberman Live (XBLA) This is a new version of a classic franchise, retooled with online muliplayer on Xbox Live. Anyone who has played a version of bomberman will be instantly familiar with the gameplay. The new additions are customizable charcters, and new and fun deathmatch options. This game is instantly addictive and has an extremely high replay value. For anyone not familiar with the title, the game consists of you playing against up to 7 other people trying to blow them up. I suggest picking up this game, its only 800 points on the Xbox Live Arcade.
Ron - Lemmings (PSN) Solve clever puzzles that will wrack your brain, all under the geist of saving poor, helpless Lemmings. The player has to lead them to the exit using various abilities such as building stairs, smashing through walls, and suicide. Sounds nuts, and it is! Originally created by DMA (Doesn't Mean Anything), this update is done by Team 17 of WORMS fame, and their zany British sense of humor shines through. Offering new puzzles, new abilities, and lots of splattered Lemmings, this game will leave you scratching your head for days.
Jeremy - Summoner (PS2) One of the first RPG's for the PS2, summoner will satisfy you craving for fantasy, magic, and hack 'n slash gameplay. It has its faults and it is a bit dated now, but overall it's a solid game, and for under $20, you'll definitely get your money's worth out of the long RPG storyline.
Justin - Fantasy Football (Online or Pen & Paper) Its almost August baby, if I'm thinking cheap entertainment, I'm going fantasy football. If you're a fan like me, and sometimes even if you're not a fan, you're going to be watching a lot of football. Why not have some fun with all that knowledge you're getting and show your skills on a fantasy football field? There are a bunch of sites on the net that offer it for free, and you can read about the basics and how to become a pro in the Fantasy Football for Noobs, here at NewGenGamers!
Ray - Paper Mario (VC) This game is a classic N64 title that was released at the end of the systems lifecycle. Many people missed this game when it first came out. The game involved turn based combat with a mushroom kingdom flair. Many thought that it was a sequel to Super Mario RPG, but it was actually a separate series. I think you will enjoy this game thoroughly and you can download it on the Wii for only 1000 points. Download and enjoy!
Ron - Gamefly If you want to play a lot of different games and not pay a lot, Gamefly is a great choice. I personally have a hard time justifying the $60 price tag on a lot of games, and have played a great amount of games through Gamefly over the last several years. Shipping times are very quick, and the games are usually in great condition. One bonus option is that if you want to purchase the game and keep it they will ship the boxart and manual out to you at no charge. Definitely a nice service for the ghetto gamer.
Jared - Pikmin (GC) OK now, you are looking for something that is different and will catch your attention? This game is great! As the first part of the series you really understand what is to take command of a bunch of small flower plants and attack bugs while trying to get the parts of your ship. You have a time limit to do it which is a downfall but adds alot of elements to the gameplay. With no time to waste you must lead your flowers to victory as Olimar. If you think you can handle it then you should definitely pick Pikmin up today and tear into it. Plus if I can dig it, then you can too!
Ducky - Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem (GC) What is there to say about this game? If you haven't played it, GO...BUY IT NOW! It is simply amazing! There are two reasons I'm suggesting this game. The first is, it's tight...so tight! Not since Snatcher for the Sega Cd have I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time, ready for whatever might come my way! It's intense! And not the “Grandma might come home and catch me wacking its so I better hurry up and toss these cloth babies into the laundry.” No, this is the nail biting, pants sh*tting, mother of all scary even Satan had nightmares after viewing just ten minutes of this masterpiece type of awesomeness that only Silicon Knights can provide. What set's this game aside? It's not the Edgar Allen Poe inspired narrative, the spell making RPG element, or the violence -to quote Jigsaw “There will be blood.” All I have to say is...Sanity Effect! The ability to hallucinate will either pull you completely into this game, or at other times take you completely out. More than once I had a double take, or was completely freaked out, by the things that happened when the green runs out of your meter. The second reason is, this game is a testament to how awesome Too Human is going to be! So get that on your 360 on release day, and check out this title. Turn off the lights, pump up the Dolby Surround, and rock out to your nightmares come to life. For less than $20 you can't go wrong! Nuggets.
Jeremy - Raw Danger (PS2) The follow-up to Disaster Report, which reportedly was a disaster but did have some interesting gameplay elements. It was just too overdhadowed by its flaws. Raw Danger boasts improvements all the way around. For $20 retail and $15 from Agetec's website, it's not a bad bet to see if there claims are true.
